Kangaroo Island Trip
Mid-term break begins and 6 days has passed, a week more to go and its back to square one. Anyways, fun beguns on the first day of holiday hehehe... 7 of us all together joined a tour to Kangaroo Island for 3days and 2nights. The price for the whole trip cost a bomb but it was worth going (it has to be and it has been) , On friday right after class, i rushed back home to pack my things..few sets of clothings, toiletries, UNO and poker cards, cell-phone charger, and most important CAMERA. After packing up, i headed straight to my friends house which is near Chinatown. 4 of us stayed overnight at his place. We were being told to meet up at Victoria Square which is just nearby my college and chinatown by 6.30am the next day since the bus would depart at 6.45am.
My fellow asian friend slept the whole way..hahaha..and when the bus driver started talking about the area, he jumped up and asked the bus driver to repeat what he said since it is not loud enough.."ermm..can you repeat what u said"...woooo that slang sounds familiar haha! frm that moment i knew he was from Malaysia.
When we were about to arrive the port, he suddenly asked me "where are you from" and i said "Malaysia".."how about you?" he said "i am from S'pore"...*__*"" whopps wrong guess..S'pore never came across my mind! lol. He came to Adelaide to work for a few months and he thought i was on holiday with my family. HAHA.
The ferry ride to Kangaroo island took about 45minutes.
Upon arrival, our tour begins straight away....
Our first stop was Clifford's Honey Farm, but before heading to the farm the tour guide stop by and show us part of the magnificent scenery of kangaroo Island.
When we arrived Clifford's Honey Farm, we were each given a cup of sparkling honey juice!! Then we were shown on how honey is extracted and given a chance to taste many different flavours of honey produced by the farm. They also make natural honey ice-cream which was delicious! After visiting the honey farm we headed to Pardana Community Hotel for lunch. Fish and Chips was on the menu served with fresh salads and bread. For dessert : Apple pie!. Yummy..yummy..
After lunch we went to Pardana Wildlife Park. Its a small zoo with a various kinds of wild animal such as kangaroos, wallabies, Australian parrot, cockatoos, koala bears and etc. We were given an oppurtunity to feed the kangaroos, give a pat to the lazy koala bears and most of all snap lots of pics! ok let the picture do the talking.....
Another lazy koala bear..
Sexy chicken...haha
Seal Bay was the next destination where we get to see the seals close-up, swimming and some basking on the sand or shall i say fast asleep enjoying their afternoon nap. We were taken down on the beach by a Park Interpretive Officer and we were being told to stay close in groups plus to keep at least 6 metres distance away from the seals as they might become aggressive. They may look cute but they are wild. Apparently one girl got bitten by a seal and she was badly injured. It was great to have the oppurtunity to get a close-up look at the seals and it would be even more fun if we actually get to touch them...
Life is so relaxing for the seals ay??Us. From left Tony,Nick, Emily, Me, Ruth, Vicky and Ian
Our last stop for the day was at Kingscote, where we get to watch "Pelican Feeding time"..these birds are huge and when they open their beaks..omg i think you can fit a person's head in it!!! HAHA. They could easily hold 3 litres of fish! The person who fed the pelican told us that there was once where a pelican swallowed a chihuahua...belief it or not?!..The tip of the Pelican's beak is sharp and we were told that if we touch the pelican they would think that we are feeding them or they might think there is some food on our hands and the next thing they would do is.....get whole of your hands!...I think you could tell what those sharp tip beaks are gonna do.Eeeekks. Pelicans get annoyed when they have to dive in to get their food.
Big bird-ies...woooo....hungry birds....seaguls can be annoying too...
We stayed at "the log cabin" for the night. The cabin is well equipt with kitchen utensils, towels, bedsheets, television, videos, indoor games like checkers, scrabbles, etc.. and many many more! There are two bedrooms, one master bedroom and another room with two double decker bed and one single bed. Outside the living room there are two more single beds..all in all the cabin can fit in 9 people. I love this complete cabin! makes you feel at home. The temperature drops at night below 20degrees and wild animals will start to come out at night. You could see wallabies and little penguins running around. As you look up at the sky at night, the sky is covered with stars and you could even see the milky way! I am sure Sheereen will love this. LOL..its beautiful..Just feel like lying on the grass all night and stare at the stars! We wanted to do that but the grass was covered with wallabies poo...LOL! everywhere!
To be continued.....

Had a great weekend last week..fun beguns on friday! haha...dont even expect to go out during public holidays cuz all the shops will be closed...and the whole Adelaide city is unusually quiet...
My housemate who frm Johor thought me how to make sushi on tues..! Meet her infront of coles in the afternoon and then we headed to the market...lets see the ingredients that u need to make sushi:
1 can of tuna
1 bottle of mayonaise
1 1/2 cucumber
2 carrots
2 packet of eels (bought frozen broiled eel)
1/2 a packet of crab meat (the one wif the red strip)
special rice for sushi
vinegar
2 packets of seaweed
sushi roller made out of bamboo
and not to forget wasabi
hehee...
making sushi takes quite a lot of time..and rolling sushi is the hardest bit..takes patients and skill to roll one perfect sushi! hahahahaha..
On friday i decided to make sushi for my frens since we have nothing much to do..everyone took the oppurtunity to roll the sushi..so in the end we have different sizes of sushi rolls..hahaha..some enourmously big...some are stuff with too much rice...hahaha...but at least it tasted good!
---darn should have taken some pics----
went swimming again on saturday at the adelaide aquatic centre..and of course i went to the spa !!! after soaking in the warm water..we headed to the sauna room..and this is my first time entering a sauna room..
OMG....the heat is unbearable...i cant even breath for one second. i only stayed for 5mins and then off i go...i really cant stand the heat.
At night after dinner, we headed back to one of our friends house and for the first time i drank Baileys mix with fresh milk! mmm....taste really good...it has abit of milky taste..and bit bitter.
at the same time we played some silly games...laugh alot the entire night. My whole face was red after drinking Baileys...>.<>
While watching the movie..i notice my whole body was itchy...and its not the normal itchiness i usually have. from then onwards i realise something was not right with my skin..and i think my allergies is starting to appear. >.<>
I m wondering whether i m allergic to Baileys..or is it because i soaked myself too long in the spa...=P
today during english class..we had a group discussion about body-language signal frm your own culture that is different frm english body language an another was proverb.
haha..everyone said.."bad body-language signs" is universal..for eg..putting up the _ _ _ _ _ _ finger...and some said quotation marks..are said to be indicating something sarcastic..
as for proverbs..my english tutor learned quite a fair bit of provernbs direct translation of malay - english proverbs like someone said "blind alphabet" ..buta huruf = illeterate, "long hands"..panjang tangan= stealing..as for chinese..."people mountain people sea"...means alot of people..
one of the korean girl in our class gave a proverb of "looking at a rice cake in a picture"..but i forgot what it meant.
This thursday we will be having our impromptu talks..geez...what is the topic going to be!!!!!????
Anyways gotta go now..catch up with assignments..till then!

On friday, our biology tutor took us on an excursion to CSIRO sec to participate in a workshop on DNA and Gene Technology. It took about 15minutes to reach the place by bus. When we arrived, the first thing that we are thought on is how to use the "micro pipette" which measures solutions in micro litres. 10 micro litres is about 1 drop of water! LOL!! We have to master how to use the micro pipette first before we do the real experiment. First experiment was to seperate DNAs (agarose gel electrophoresis). We have to draw certain amount of DNA by using the micro pipette and mix it with a colour dye so the seperation of the DNA would be visible. Then we have to transfer the DNA into a special kind of agar jelly called agarose gel which has 5 small columns ( the columns are made using combs, the comb is place on the jelly while it settles)..transfering the DNA into the column is a very delicate work and your hands must be steady without letting smearing the solution around the gel!! The gel is already placed in a power pack which allows the DNA to separate (DNA moves frm negative to positive electrode) !
The next experiment we did was to transfer DNA into bacteria plasmids. Those who studied bio should be familiar with this experiment hehehehe. We have to make sure the area where we conduct the experiment must be sterilize! The area is sterilize by spraying ethanol around the area. we conduct the experiment under a Bunsen burner as well to keep the area sterilize and free from bacteria..we have to make sure every procedure is done right under the Bunsen burner at the same time make sure our hands are not to near the Bunsen burner or our gloves will melt!! haha. The experiment is again very delicate and we have to be fast. The bacteria is transfered to a plate which contains agar gel that has nutrients for the bacteria to grow. We get to bring each of our plates back..so i m wondering if my group's bacteria grow or not!?!?
Anyway the whole experience was great!
On saturday me and Kylie went to an Indian Food festival (Mela 2007 ) at Elders Park. Entrance fee for students cost $5! There were lots of food stalls, games and performance as well. hahaha me and Kylie went on food hunting! We walked around every stall, comparing prices and amounts..hahahaha..then only decide what to buy.
FOOD-aaaaa..... lamb masala with rice, um...i forgot the name of the bread which is eaten with curry lamb, the two triangle shape puffs has curry potatoes in it with peas.
Us enjoying our mango flavoured yogurt drink...i forgot what it is called ...my bad
ok...there was camel and Pony rides too!! $15 per-ride...hahaha...i dont dare to ride on the camel but cant help taking a pic of it! ........proud camel.............
